What is the format for the Harvard Debate Tournament?
The format for the tournament will be carried out through the world school debate style.
What is the age-requirement to join the tournament?
The Harvard Debate Tournament is tailored for high school students. As long as you and your team are currently studying in a high school, we welcome you to join us for this event.
What is the role of adjudicator?
Adjudicators will preside over the debates, scoring both teams based on the merits of their argument. Adjudicators will be shuffled and no adjudicator will preside over their own team’s debate to maintain the integrity of the tournament.
Who can register as an adjudicator?
The adjudicator can be either:
- A mentor
- A seasoned debater with experience in debate
Adjudicators have to submit their debating CVs for the team to vet before the event.
Why do we need a team of 6?
The team of 6 will be made of 3 speakers, 2 reserves and 1 adjudicator.
Can I join the event and present it in my native language?
No, all rounds of debate in the Harvard Debate Tournament will be held in English. Training materials provided will also be in English.
Am I required to attend the entire duration?
Yes, all participants are encouraged to stay for the entire duration of this tournament.
Will participants be able to access TGC’s virtual academy after the event?
Yes, you will still be able to access TGC’s virtual academy after the event.
